The client
Image Images, a French production company with over twenty years of experience in producing documentaries and wildlife films, collaborated with renowned director Pierre Meynadier on their recent wildlife project.
Pierre Meynadier, born in 1960, brings a wealth of experience to the table, having directed over 100 documentaries globally. His expertise lies in unveiling the rich tapestry of diverse cultures and people, a skill that has earned him numerous accolades at international festivals.
The challenge
Image Images faced a unique challenge with their ambitious wildlife feature film, "The Legend of Akam." Shot in the stunning Pantanal of Brazil, the world's largest wetland known for its biodiversity, the film offers a fairytale-like narrative where over fifty animal characters engage in dialogues. While the original version is in French, the film has garnered international acclaim at events like the Wildlife Conservation Film Festival in New York, the KIDS FIRST! Film Festival in San Francisco, and the International Children’s Film Festival in Mumbai. Despite this success, "The Legend of Akam" struggled to secure an international release. The high costs of dubbing – each language version imposed a cost of about $50,000 – constituted a significant barrier for potential distributors.
How Rask AI brings value
Dramatic cost savings
The partnership with Rask AI turned out to be a financial windfall for Image Images. It slashed dubbing costs tenfold, turning what was once a budgetary black hole into a manageable expense. This enabled the production of international versions of "The Legend of Akam," paving the way to worldwide audiences.
Crafting a global presence
Rask AI enabled a step-by-step expansion plan for "The Legend of Akam". The first masterstroke was the Portuguese language version, a nod to the film's Brazilian setting, swiftly securing a local distributor for a May 2024 release. The Brazilian version of the film is a celebration of the country's natural splendor and an homage to Brazil's underappreciated ecosystems. This version isn't just about entertainment; it's a clarion call for environmental appreciation and awareness.
Next up is the English version that will become the movie’s gateway to the U.S. market.
Breaking new ground with innovation
Image Images' embrace of Rask AI's transformative technology positions them as pioneers.
"The Legend of Akam" is among the first films in the world to use AI for localization.
Rask AI’s integration into the production process means that dubbing can now be handled more efficiently. The VoiceClone feature helps to deliver a translation that stays true to the original, while the French actors receive a portion of the rights for the versions created from their performance.
Going forward with Rask AI
Looking forward, Image Images plans to use Rask AI to bring more of its film catalog to international audiences. This move could significantly widen their reach, bringing diverse stories to new markets. It's not just about the savings or the strategic market penetration—it's about redefining what's possible in the realm of film distribution.
